These regulations apply to students newly enrolling in BRUFACE as of the 2025–2026 academic year, with the exception of students from a country outside the European Union.
Students who are re-enrolling and were previously admitted under the former Bruface framework remain subject to the procedures and regulations that were in place at the time of their initial enrolment, unless otherwise communicate.
Students are subject to the ULB General Study Regulations and its complementary faculty provisions

Admission without direct access

Tuition Fees
Tuition fees are those applicable in the French-speaking Community, in conformity with the prevailing legislation. They are paid to Université libre de Bruxelles in the applicable delays.

Study Plan (PAE)
The below procedure applies to all 1st registrations for a Bruface Master's degree in 25-26 (except NON-UE students), and ULB-students re-enrolling.
• Upon enrolment or re-enrolment, eCursus proposes a study plan based on the course catalog. • Notifications are sent via MonULB once validated.
• Modifications (to be requested via a form in the student portal monULB
In the French Community, the PAE is drawn up for the whole year by 30 October at the latest (see articles 44 to 48 of the RGE)
Students with a bachelor's degree from the VUB who have anticipated Master courses will send the EPB secretariat their transcript of marks for these courses.
Once the PAE has been definitively validated in ecursus, students must copy their PAE in the VUB system.
Structure of study programmes
Electives (outside the list)

A student can choose optional courses outside the programme if the jointly -agreed catalogue allows it after the agreement of the academic coordinator and the chair of the education counsel.
Practical Rules for Courses at VUB
Students must adhere to the following practical rules when following courses at VUB:
- Recording classes via the learning platform is subject to institutional policy.
- Dissemination of study or examination materials is prohibited without prior consent.
- The use of access badges is mandatory and regulated by campus security protocols.
- They must use the official VUB learning platform and their VUB email address.
Study Account
Study Account System (Leerkrediet) All students who are enrolled in a higher education programme in Flanders are subject to the study account system (“leerkrediet”). This system tracks the number of credits a student can use throughout their academic career in Flanders. Students cannot be refused admission or reenrollment to a BRUFACE masters programme on the basis of their remaining study account.
Examination Periods
Examination dates are listed in the BRUFACE calendar.
Time and place of examination
Examinations may take place at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel for courses offered at this institution.
Schedules are announced one month prior to the exam period (article 71 GSR).
Joint deliberation juries and their responsibilities
Each joint deliberation jury is composed by maximum one teacher per compulsory course, out of which minimum half must be present for valid deliberation. The different juries are chaired by two chairpersons, one from VUB and one from ULB. Each year, the nominative composition of the joint deliberation jury shall be established by the BSPC and published on the website. There is one single ULB and one single VUB chairperson and secretary for all of the Bruface joint.
Deliberation jurys
Each year the chairpersons and secretaries are appointed by the Joint Faculty Council and before the 1st of october.
General provisions:
1. A student acquires a credit when he obtained a score of 10/20 or more.
2. A student acquires the joint diploma in one of the following cases:
a. He has acquired all the required credits by obtaining 10/20 or more on all MA courses.
b. He has acquired the credits for the Master thesis but has not acquired all other credits. He has, over the full program, an 'acceptable deficit' to be agreed by the deliberation jury and not in conflict with the regulations in French and Flemish communities, VUB regulations and ULB regulations.
3. Grades are given according to the following rules: summa cum laude (with highest honors) 85%, magna cum laude (with great honors) 77%, cum laude (with honors) 68%. In case of 'acceptable deficit', the jury must vote for the grade by simple majority.
4. There is only once chance per exam evaluation period (first exam evaluation period: January or June and second exam evaluation period: august-september).
5. In case of failure or absence in the January or June exam evaluation period, a second chance is possible only in the September exam evaluation period.
6. Exams can take place only within the exam period. The exam period is fixed in the joint academic calendar. Upon request by the students, a maximum of two exams may be organized in the second half of the study weeks period, as fixed in the joint academic calendar. Aspects of disputes and refusal for registration will be treated according to local rules.
The Jury remains sovereign however; it must operate within the legal framework established by the two communities.
Irregularities/ Assessment fraud and plagiarism
In the event of examination irregularities within the framework of the Bruface programmes, any sanctions will be jointly decided by the competent bodies in which there will be at least one VUB representative in respect of article 82 and 83 from GSR.

Appeal
Appeals will be handled in accordance with the procedures established by ULB, but a representative from VUB will also sit on the appeal committee in the respect of section 23 of RGE.
Language of Instruction and Communication
The language of instruction for all Bruface joint master programmes is English. Students will be addressed in English for all official communications. Examinations will be conducted in English, and students are expected to use English for any official procedures, including but not limited to appeals, requests, and administrative correspondence.
Ombudsperson
As stipulated in Article 2 of this annex, students can refer to the RGE regulations, these will also be explained on the BRUFACE webpage. In addition, for issues directly related to courses and examinations coordinated by a VUB professor (FR: coördinateur - Nl: Titularis), the VUB ombudsperson also has competence. The ombudsperson acts as a mediator with the aim of reaching an amicable settlement as soon as possible.

EBS status
This procedure applies to all 1st registrations for a Master's degree, and to all ULB Master's degrees.
Procedure for Students with Specific Needs at ULB
Step 1: Enroll as a student at ULB.
Step 2: Log in to ‘MonULB – Mon secrétariat virtuel – Mon dossier EBS’ using your ULBID and password.
Step 3: Upload the required documents, including medical records (less than 1 year old, issued by a specialist or public authority).
Step 4: Schedule an appointment with the EBS-ESH team to create your Individualized Support Plan (PAI).
Step 5: The EBS-ESH medical commission will review your application and approve the proposed PAI.

• VUB/ULB students from the VUB/ULB education master programme in engineering;
• VUB/ULB engineering students who follow an elective ULB/VUB course from a BRUFACE -programme;
• VUB credit contract students who follow a ULB course from a BRUFACE - programme;
• VUB engineering students enrolled in the Dutch equivalent of the BRUFACE - programme who follow a ULB course from a BRUFACE -programme;
• incoming exchange students through VUB/ULB partners who follow a ULB/VUB course from a BRUFACE programme.
